Maintaining the correct pH will protect the pumps and heater from corrosion and help to avoid problems caused by limescale.
Symptoms of high pH include scale on surfaces and cloudy water, poor sanitizer function and the need for frequent filter cleaning. If the pH of your water is above the level recommended for your sanitizer use pH Reducer to reduce it. surespa pH Reducer can also be used to reduce the TA if required.
Dose to reduce the pH : 11g per 1000 litres of spa water.
Pre-dissolve the product in a clean plastic container at a maximum rate of 11g per litre of warm water from the hot tub. Agitate well to ensure that the product is fully dissolved and add the solution to the spas with the pumps running to aid distribution.
After a minimum of 30 minutes re-check the pH level and repeat if necessary until the required pH is reached. A number of treatments may be necessary.
To reduce the TA : Use the amounts shown in the following table.
|Size of your hot tub||To reduce the Total Alkalinity...|
|10 ppm||20 ppm||50 ppm||100 ppm|
|1000 litres / 220 gals||20g||40g||100g||200g|
|1500 litres / 330 gals||30g||60g||150g||300g|
NB If you are unable to maintain an appropriate pH level in your tub the most likely cause is that the the Total Alkalinity is too low. Always correct the Total Alkalinity balance before you attempt to balance the pH.
When water molecules are ionized, they produce hydrogen ions (H+) and hydroxyl (OH-) ions, which carry an electrical charge. These ions in the water determine whether the water is acidic (excess H+) or alkaline (excess OH-). The term "pH" refers to thehydrogen-ion concentration and is defined as the logarithm of the reciprocal of the hydrogen-ion concentration. The scale ranges from 0 to 14 with a pH of 7 being neutral. Higher pH values denote alkalinity, lower pH values acidity. Because it is a logarithmic scale, a solution at pH 5 is 10 times more acidic than a solution at pH 6, 100 times more acidic than a solution at pH 7, and 1,000 times more acidic than a solution at pH 8.
